One of the best examples of a complex task made simpler and more efficient thanks to our bespoke design can be seen below. An Automotive client had a requirement to automate their inspection process for 15 variants of high precision castings. What we provided was an automated robotic vision system, containing a variety of measuring technologies all enclosed within a light controlled cell to create a dust-free, low vibration environment. This ensures there is no contamination of the inspection cell & corresponding results. The light-controlled cell also provides a bespoke LED background to correctly project lighting onto and in some cases through the castings to ensure accurate results
We used the FANUC Europe M10iA/12S robot to manipulate the position of each casting in various orientations at a repeatability of greater than 40um to a series of Laser Displacement sensors, Measurement Probes and 3D scanning devices. The machined surfaces, presence of rivnuts, rivets, pop nuts, HB bolts and stud rivets were all inspected with A greater than 10um accuracy.
With this level of technology, we were not only able to achieve an overall accuracy of less than 70 microns, but we can also create self-generated datum points throughout the inspection to ensure 100% inspection is achieved despite the fact that the pre-set datum points may be in different planes. Including around corners and crevices. Thus, making this machine a truly unique concept.
