Rail Systems

We at QM Systems work closely with the rail systems industry to provide bespoke, turnkey solutions to improve the sector. We already completed projects such as Point Assembly and Test Systems, Sleeper handlers and Spreaders, Rail Panel Handling Solutions and Compressor Assembly and Test Systems to name just a few. We have a full understanding of the industry, as well as partnerships with equipment hire providers to provide end of arm tooling for manipulation of heavy infrastructure. Here at QM Systems, we work closely with our customers to provide a full turnkey solution from the design through to manufacturing the system to ensure we fully understand your requirements and deliver a bespoke solution to solve your challenge.

The key to our knowledge is in the staff that we employ. During the journey we have been on and creating rail systems since the company’s inception in 1986, we have accrued a hand selected team of over 70 permanent members of staff with years of experience in all disciplines of automation and applying them to any business sector. It is the level of detail and expertise that our staff put into every project that has allowed us to provide tailored systems to clients such as National Rail Systems, Bombardier, Siemens Rail, Knorr Bremse and many more.

As an example of one of the exemplary systems we provide. Below showcases a piece of Automated Testing Equipment designed for the purpose of housing all mechanical, electrical and electronic parts together with all control systems and software for testing into one machine. For testing the cylinders, we use a servo controlled lead screw with load cell feedback, and the parking brake Bowden cable, we use pneumatic cylinder actuation with load cell feedback.

In order to make the system fully automatic, the requirement of operating the resetting nut in both clockwise and anticlockwise directions has also been automated. A Torque Driver was used for the turning the resetting nut as well as measuring torque feedback. This device and the pneumatic circuit are software controlled, with an industrial PC fitted to execute test routines, as well as a barcode reader compatible with both 2D and 3D elements to scan the product information.
